Together with our parent company, Chesnara plc, we are committed to becoming a sustainable business.

What do we mean by sustainability?

Sustainability is about fulfilling the needs of the present without compromising the needs of future generations. It involves a balance of economic growth, environmental protection and social responsibility.

Core group sustainability principles

DO NO HARM
DO GOOD
ACT NOW FOR LATER

Meeting our 3 core sustainability goals means making forward-looking decisions in the interests of all our stakeholders, including our policyholders, investors, regulators, the planet and its natural resources.

Our group Annual Sustainability Report
  • SUPPORT A SUSTAINABLE FUTURE

    Net zero emissions by 2050

  • MAKE A POSITIVE IMPACT

Investments in nature and social impact solutions

  • HELP CREATE A FAIRER WORLD

A business where everyone feels welcome

Forward-thinking decision-making

There is no quick or easy way for a business to become sustainable, although we believe our experience of taking a long-term view gives us a good starting point. Already, we are taking steps to embed sustainability into decision-making across our business, guided by our group principles: Do no harm. Do good. Act now for later.

Playing an active role

Decarbonisation, the protection and restoration of nature, and addressing social inequality, are essential for the future health and wellbeing of the planet and all its inhabitants. The financial services sector is actively involved in this activity because of the sheer scale of the assets that our industry owns and manages, and the influence we can have.

It’s important for businesses like ours to play a proactive role in assessing and minimising the longer-term risks that could impact the economy, financial systems, and ultimately, the value of our customers’ policies.

Our focus
  • The investments that we manage on behalf of our policyholders and shareholders - to make sure we manage the risks from a changing world.
  • The way we run our business, including our offices and policies and procedures.
  • The stakeholders and third-parties we impact and interact with through running our business.

Looking after our customers

Our customers will keep receiving the same strong levels of financial security and quality of service they’ve always done.

We’ll continue to actively minimise the risks to their investments posed by factors, such as, climate change.

Similarly, we are committed to fulfilling the requirements of the FCA’s Consumer Duty to continue delivering good customer outcomes, across areas, such as:

Customer care:

➢ Regular in-house staff training
➢ Engaging with customers and reviewing key communications to ensure we’re always clear, concise and provide the information customers need to make effective decisions
➢ Offering flexibility and additional support for vulnerable customers
➢ Enhancing our websites with accessibility tools.

Our guiding policies and principles

We have a number of policies and principles that guide and underpin the work we do and the way we do it. Our fundamental duty is to look after all our stakeholders, including our customers, and these policies and principles are designed to make sure that we do.

Across the wider group, our policies and principles also extend to:

➢ Business ethics
➢ Tax
➢ Data privacy
➢ Cyber crime
➢ Community impact – such as staff volunteering days, Charitable Fund giving and supporting charitable causes.

Looking after the planet

As a group, we’ll be reducing the impact of human-generated climate change and biodiversity loss by transitioning to be a net zero business.

Looking after our people

Our people are the key to ensuring the success of our sustainability plans for our customers and our business. Embedding sustainability into everyone’s roles and having specific sustainability-related objectives will help drive the change that is needed.

Looking after our key suppliers, partners and asset managers

We’ll continue to work with them to understand their decarbonisation and wider sustainability plans, how these align with our own plans, and any further steps to be taken.
